Inductis' unique approach leads to top three in annual DMA Analytic Challenge at DMA 20066
New York, November 9, 2006:

Inductis, a global management consulting and analytics services firm, placed third in the DMA Analytic Challenge , a business competition sponsored by The DMA Analytic Council and CAC Group, Inc .

The DMA Analytic Challenge, held recently at the annual DMA 2006 convention in San Francisco, pitted 23 corporate teams against one another in a challenge to develop a marketing analytics model to identifying responders to a customer promotion for retail storefront businesses.

Teams were asked to build models to target prospects for a direct mail “traffic driver” promotion for the retail clothing industry based on product data from previous campaigns, such as purchase information, household demographics and profit margins. Judges selected the winning models based on predicted performance and profit of the models.

The final results were extremely close, with the top 3 teams finishing with a photo-finish difference of one one-hundredth percent difference in the overall performance measure.

“I am proud that we placed so well in this challenge, beating many firms who specialize in marketing analytics for the retail industry,” said Dr. Martin Ahrens, Vice President for Methodology and Quality Assurance at Inductis. “Our excellent performance in these sorts of competitions reinforces our unique approach that blends analytic process, teamwork and modeling skills.”

Compared to other leading participants, the Inductis team used more extensive visualization techniques and was the only team that employed next generation modeling techniques, such as genetic algorithms and ADA boost, to develop its best predictive models .

“Retail stores can generate a wealth of data and information on customer transactions,” said Vineet Agrwal, a member of the Inductis team. “However, it often stays untapped or is stored in ways that cannot be analyzed. Using our modeling methodology in the competition, we demonstrated that we can help retailers analyze information completely and intelligently in ways that can increase their profits and benefit their businesses.”

Inductis releases a white paper on ‘Emerging Trends in Auto Insurance Pricing’
New York, Sep 11, 2006:
Inductis, a global management consulting and analytics services firm serving Fortune 500 clients in the US has released a White Paper on ‘Emerging Trends in Auto Insurance Pricing’.The paper written by Mr. Arnab Dey, a Principal, Ritesh Aggarwal, a Lead Project Manager at Inductis, and Frank Cacchione, Associate Partner, Inductis and CEO, TNC Management Group, addresses the fact that to remain competitive, insurers must constantly improve the assessments of their true levels of risk and price policyholders accordingly. “Traditionally, the U.S. auto insurance industry relied on loss ratio models, used limited external data, had a compartmentalized model structure and used variables that were difficult to obtain accurately. Today, led by a few insurers, the industry is headed towards pure premium modeling at individual coverage level using extensive external data and variables that can be verified”, says Mr. Dey.The industry is headed towards pure premium modeling at individual coverage level using extensive external data and variables that can be verified. These companies are also improving their data collection process so that they have access to richer information to make better pricing decisions. “The industry also needs to focus on more accurately allocating non-loss related expenses such as acquisition expenses into the pricing structure as opposed to traditional fixed load methods”, says Mr. Aggarwal. The paper discusses the five key levers that companies need to master to effectively leverage the power of data and analysis in order to drive profitable growth through improved pricing: Data Preparation, Modeling Approach, Model Structure, Use of External Data, and Allocation of Other Expenses.“While the industry continues to face challenges such as regulatory restrictions on use of certain variables, difference across states and data integration across the organization, companies that embrace these new techniques while managing the market challenges will emerge winners in the next few years at the expense of those who continue to rely on outdated methods that can lead to further erosion of market share and adverse risk selection”, adds Mr. Cacchione.

The paper emphasizes on the fact that as the industry evolves and better uses the tools at its disposal, companies that quickly adopt these advanced analytical methods will emerge winners over the coming years.

Inductis builds an award winning solution at a Leading Data Mining Competition
New York, July 10, 2006:
nductis, a Management Consulting and Analytical Services firm has been ranked first in one of the two sub tasks, jointly with two other teams, in the Discovery Challenge, a data mining competition organized along with the 17th European Conference on Machine Learning (ECML) and the 10th European Conference on Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (PKDD).

This year's competition was about building a personalized spam email filtering algorithm. As web mail users across the world fight spam through reading messages and then discarding spam from their mailboxes whereas others spend additional time to label their received spam messages for training local spam filters running on their desktop machines . It becomes extremely important to combat the wastage of time, resource and server space, both for the users as well as email service providers.

The Inductis Team comprising of Kushagra Gupta, Vikrant Chaudhary, Nikhil Marwah and Chirag Taneja built a solution that captured 95% of the spam email accurately and was ranked first in one of the two sub tasks, jointly with two other teams.

"We built content based feature probabilistic models instead of multivariate techniques. This helped us in factoring in distributional changes in multiple user mail inboxes," said Kushagra Gupta, Modeler for Inductis and a participant in the competition.

The data mining challenge problem was to identify spam mails in different user inboxes on the basis of previously tagged emails from a public database. For this purpose, Inductis had to construct a spam filter for each single user that correctly classifies any incoming email as " Spam or Non-Spam" .

"This is our second major achievement in a span of two months, after an award in the competition at PAKDD, Singapore. This is great validation of our ability to deliver world class analytical solutions across multiple domains", says Mr. Lalit Wangikar, Vice President, India.

Inductis wins Data Mining Competition at the 10th PAKDD 2006
New Jersey, April 12, 2006 :
Inductis, a Management Consulting and Analytical Services firm headquartered in New Jersey (USA), with its other two offices in New York (USA) and Gurgaon (India) has bagged the first runner's up position at the recently held data mining competition at 10th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD 2006)

The Inductis team developed a model by combining advanced modeling techniques like SAS, CART and MARS, with a correct classification rate of 89%.

The business problem was to identify customers who are likely to switch to 3G network using existing customer usage and demographic data for an Asian telco operator which has successfully launched a third generation (3G) mobile telecommunications network.

The 10th Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD 2006) is a leading international conference in the areas of data mining and knowledge discovery. A part of the conference was a data mining competition, co-organized by the Singapore Institute of Statistics (SIS) and the Pattern Recognition & Machine Intelligence Association (PREMIA) of Singapore and sponsored by SAS Singapore.

"This victory reflects the strength and robustness of our methodology. We worked on a challenging problem in a new industry in a new geography and developed a winning solution. The award corroborates the fact that we have some of the best Intellectual property around modeling to apply to a wide variety of business problems", says Mr. Lalit Wangikar, Vice President - India Operations .

"The problem was very interesting. We had to treat it as a look-alike of customer level conversion model as the data was static. Moreover, the fact that the score cut-offs and validation measures were based solely on our judgment, made it even more challenging. It was a great mix of data mining, analytics, statistical modeling for all of us as a team ", says Sutirtha Ghosh, Modeler, Inductis and a participant in the competition.

The Inductis team headed by Dr. Martin Ahrens, Vice President - Methodology & Quality Assurance and Mr. Lalit Wangikar, Vice President - India Operations bagged the first runners up position amongst stiff competition from International universities and other data analytics corporates. The National Laboratory for Novel Software Technology, Nanjing University won the Grand Champion title in the open category.

Inductis releases a white paper on Auto Insurance
New York ,NY, February 7, 2006 :
Inductis , a global management consulting and analytics services firm serving Fortune 500 clients in the US has released a White Paper on Systemic Shift to Direct Relationships in U.S. Auto Insurance: Implications for Insurers.

The paper written by Mr. Arnab Dey, Associate Principal, Inductis and Mr. Frank Cacchione , an Associate Partner at Inductis and CEO, TNC Management Group, emphasizes on how the U.S. Auto insurance market is experiencing a major restructuring.

"The focus of this white paper is on the fact that the consumers are relying less on their agents and looking at direct insurers and this shift is a result of the gradual but powerful market forces that have emerged over the last decade", says Mr. Dey.

The paper talks about massive advertising and branding designed to drive consumers directly to an insurer's call center or web site, the emergence of more sophisticated pricing models to accurately estimate the price point at which any risk profile becomes profitable and should be insured, and increased consumer acceptance of the direct response model, as factors responsible for this shift.

According to Mr. Cacchione , "Over the next decade, these market forces are expected to accelerate the erosion of share of agent-produced business, both independent and captive. Sustainable growth will go to those carriers that can invest in building the right capabilities to grow the direct channel while managing channel conflict".

The white paper extensively explores the shift of the auto insurance sector, the market forces driving it and channel conflict.

Inductis Finalist in DM Review World Class Solution Awards
New Providence, NJ, Nov 22, 2005:

Inductis, a global management consulting and analytics services firm serving Fortune 500 clients in the US, was selected as a finalist in the DM Review 2005 World Class Solution Awards under 'Data Acquisition and Integration' category. There were over 100 submissions received from a wide variety of companies including technology, telecom, financial services and consulting. Entries were judged on the basis of business value, qualitative benefits, quantitative benefits, sustainability and value as best practice of the solutions submitted.

"We are delighted to have made it to the list of finalists at the DM Review Awards in our first ever participation in the Awards. Our aim next year will be to win the Award," commented Sandeep Tyagi , Founder and Managing Principal, Inductis.

Inductis' submission involved designing an approximate 'business entity matching' algorithm and implementing it for a large credit bureau. 'Business Entity Matching' refers to taking a business name, address and phone as input, comparing it to a reference database of business names, addresses and phones and returning the closest possible match. For the client, this initiative resulted in an increase of 6-8% in the match rate and an estimated direct revenue impact of approx. $50mm. In addition, this initiative resulted in the client gaining a competitive advantage in matching technology.

"Our client processes more than one billion records annually for its customers. Given the fact that both input information and the reference database may have incomplete or inaccurate data like truncations, abbreviations, acronyms and transpositions, 'matching' becomes an enormously complicated task in most cases. Our analytics team performed a rigorous analysis of both the input and the reference data to design this world-class matching algorithm" says Sudip Chakraborty , Principal at Inductis.

The category 'Data Acquisition and Integration' in which Inductis was selected recognizes solutions that demonstrate value through acquiring and integrating data from disparate sources.

Inductis Forms Business Decision Analytics Group
Offers Unique Balance of Technical Expertise and Business Insight

New Providence, NJ, Feb. 7
Inductis, a global firm offering management consulting, and organizational outsourcing services, is creating a Business Decision Analytics practice group. The group will focus on helping clients identify significant bottom-line benefits through the application of data analytics.

Business Decision Analytics is the discipline of accessing and analyzing large (but typically difficult-to-handle) data from diverse sources in order to understand historical performance or behavior, or to predict a particular outcome. It is the practice of converting data into insight that enhances an organization's ability to make effective business decisions. Inductis has performed high-impact work in this area for several Fortune 50 companies and is recognized for its unique combination of in-depth experience, technical expertise and business value.

"To thrive in business today takes not only high-level judgement, but granular insights into the many factors that are essential to success," said Sandeep Tyagi, Managing Principal and Founder of Inductis. Companies have accumulated vast amounts of data that can be leveraged to gain these insights. "Inductis," he continued, "offers a unique, data-based approach, coupled with the strategic understanding of business." Inductis has a staff of 20 in the Business Decision Analytics group, and expects the group to nearly double in size in the first year.

Today's business decisions -- such as whether to extend a credit line, change a pricing structure, or alter a customer target base -- are extremely complex, involving a multitude of factors. Inductis applies in-depth analytics using advanced statistical methods and powerful tools to make full use of the data that is too often underused by marketing and operations departments.

Sample applications include:

Target Marketing - Creating customer segmentation and targeted marketing programs
Risk assessment - Estimating the risk of default or other unfavorable behavior
EPrice Sensitivity Modeling - Deriving price elasticity to help re-price.

The group will have team members in Inductis's U.S. and India offices. The firm has already deployed a high-capacity analytic infrastructure in the U.S. that is accessible globally to Inductis teams.
